It is part of an\u00a0HVAC\u00a0system found in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. A fan coil unit is a diverse device sometimes using\u00a0ductwork, and is used to control the temperature in the space where it is installed, or serve multiple spaces. It is controlled either by a manual on\/off switch or by a\u00a0thermostat, which controls the throughput of water to the heat exchanger using a\u00a0control valve\u00a0and\/or the fan speed.<\/p>\n<p>Due to their simplicity and flexibility, fan coil units can be more economical to install than ducted\u00a0100% fresh air systems (VAV)\u00a0or central heating systems with\u00a0air handling units\u00a0or\u00a0chilled beams.
