It is to the credit of concrete that so few complaints are received
\non the vast amount of construction put in place. While it is easy
\nto determine the properties of the hardened concrete that will be
\nsuitable for the intended purpose, great care is required through-
\nout the entire construction process to ensure that the hardened
\nconcrete actually has the desired properties. When a blemish
\nappears on the surface of a concrete slab it will likely be one of
\nthese: blisters, cracking, crazing, curling, delamination, discol-
\noration, dusting, efflorescence, low spots, popouts, scaling, or
\nspalling. These deficiencies, caused by specific factors that are
\nexplained in the following paragraphs, can be minimized or pre-
