{"id":12136,"date":"2023-01-24T16:03:57","date_gmt":"2023-01-25T00:03:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/construction-begins-on-new-hydro-one-tunnel-in-toronto\/"},"modified":"2023-01-24T16:03:59","modified_gmt":"2023-01-25T00:03:59","slug":"construction-begins-on-new-hydro-one-tunnel-in-toronto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/construction-begins-on-new-hydro-one-tunnel-in-toronto\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction begins on new Hydro One tunnel in Toronto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/files\/membership-default-internal\/\" class=\"memberhide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/01\/20220718_175041000_iOS.jpg\" alt=\"-\"><\/a><br\/><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>TORONTO \u2014 Hydro One has launched construction on a new tunnel that will run 85 feet below ground in downtown Toronto to improve reliability for customers in the city.<\/p>\n<p>Construction was launched Jan. 23 on the tunnel, which will run from the Esplanade to Bay and Dundas streets, will be 12 feet in diameter, about the size of three park benches, and will house new transmission cables, replacing cables that have served Toronto\u2019s downtown core since the 1950s.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_285992\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-285992\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-285992\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">HYDRO ONE INC. \u2014 Pictured is Hydro One\u2019s Celtic Tiger Tunnel Boring Machine being lowered into the ground.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hydro One says it\u2019s investing approximately $120 million dollars on the infrastructure renewal project which will ensure the company can continue to provide energy to some of Toronto\u2019s most critical institutions, including Hospital Row, city hall and the financial district, states a release.<\/p>\n<p>Hydro One is working with the City of Toronto and Toronto Hydro to co-ordinate construction needs and the use of a tunnel boring machine, minimizing disruptions to residents and local businesses by allowing for most of the required construction to take place underground.<\/p>\n<p>Tunnel boring is expected to be complete by early 2024 and the installation of the new cables is expected to be completed by 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The underground tunnel housing the new power cables will run between Esplanade TS and Terauley TS once complete.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-5143531171910809\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- News - Bottom -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-5143531171910809\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"8320848692\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada.constructconnect.com\/dcn\/news\/infrastructure\/2023\/01\/construction-begins-on-new-hydro-one-tunnel-in-toronto\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">This article was originally posted at Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TORONTO \u2014 Hydro One has launched construction on a new tunnel that will run 85 feet below ground in downtown &#8230;
