The options being considered include delaying its Euston terminus to 2038 or scrapping it altogether.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-ad-id=\"161795\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fconcreteshow.co.uk%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/01\/UKCS-23-CE-MPU.gif\" alt=\"-\"><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>It reported a two to five-year delay to the entire project is being considered, with fresh fears the Birmingham to Crewe and Manchester legs will also be scrapped.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-11r1m41-RichTextComponentWrapper ep2nwvo0\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-7uxr49-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">Earlier, in a speech setting out his long-term vision for economic growth, the Chancellor said the country needed the connectivity that came from better infrastructure.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-11r1m41-RichTextComponentWrapper ep2nwvo0\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-7uxr49-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">He said the government was \u201cabsolutely committed to showing that we can deliver big important infrastructure projects\u201d.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-ad-id=\"172063\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.vp-tpa.com%2Fgb%2F%3Futm_source%3DConstructionEnquirer%26utm_medium%3DMPU%26utm_campaign%3Dtpa_brand%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/01\/1674909318_801_TPA Ad 300x250px.gif\" alt=\"-\"><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThat is why in the Autumn Statement we protected key projects like HS2, East West Rail and core Northern Powerhouse Rail.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">Stephen Marcos Jones, CEO of the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE), said:\u00a0 \u201cWe have already spent significant sums on the design and delivery of this transformational major project which will bring some of our major economic areas closer together, help to relieve capacity across the entire rail network, and ensure we can create a carbon friendly alternative to domestic air travel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">\u201cLast minute changes of this nature will do nothing but add complication, delay and expense to the project where construction has already started. Scaling back its ambition further, at this stage, will just mean the economic and social benefits of HS2 for communities across the UK is further watered down.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">\u201cOur national infrastructure should not become a political football.
