Mattamy Homes<\/a> was busy getting shovels in the ground last week, hosting ground breaking ceremonies for not one, but three different development projects across the GTA. The selection of developments were\u00a0Westbend Residences<\/a>, Mile & Creek Condos<\/a>, and Martha James Condos<\/a>, their sales launched by Mattamy last year, and all marking a significant milestone in the developers\u2019 ongoing mission to deliver new homes to a region where reliable accommodations are growing harder and harder to come by.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“We are thrilled to break ground on three highly anticipated communities” said Brad Carr, CEO of Mattamy Homes Canada. Expanding on what it means to be moving forward with each project, he said it reaffirmed two things: \u201cwell-located developments that are reasonably priced and designed for homeowners will always perform,\u201d and \u201c[Mattamy\u2019s] confidence in the market and ongoing investment in GTA real estate.”<\/p>\n

Looking at what is in store for the GTA as these projects get underway, they are set to deliver a total of nearly 500 new housing units in the form of mid-rise buildings that thrive on location, while each project maintains its own unique character.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Beginning with Westbend Residences, the site is located on Bloor Street West, midway between Keele Street and Dundas Street West, benefitting from two subway stations and a GO Transit station all within 800m. Construction will eventually see the completion of 13-storey residential development that animates the Bloor Street Frontage with retail, while adding density in a way that adheres to the character of the surrounding built form.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The project comes at a time when development had gone quiet on the western stretch of Bloor Street, marking the first project of its kind (within 500m of High Park) in the last few years. The first steps for construction will see extensive drilling to create boreholes for the geothermal heating system that will allow the development to operate at the highest efficiency during the hottest and coldest times of the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Moving west, Mattamy was pleased to ceremonially commence the construction of Mile & Creek Condos in Milton, Ontario, kick-starting a project that will continue to evolve over the next decade. The 8-storey mid-rise that broke ground last week is the first phase of the master-planned Mile & Creek community that will eventually comprise a total of six buildings, balancing the expansive rural landscape and natural amenities with highway connectivity.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Finally, Burlington welcomed Mattamy\u2019s GTA development team to toast the start of construction on the site of Martha James Condos, the 14-storey project designed by Graziani + Corazza Architects<\/a>. The design will deliver a glass clad tower above a brick podium, selected to blend the building into the view of the lake, located just south of the site.\u00a0<\/p>\n

These three projects represent the first efforts of a new branch of Mattamy Homes Canada, the GTA Urban Division, tasked specifically with delivering solutions as the housing crisis persists. “So far, the positive and welcome response to each of these communities tells us that we’re on the right track,\u201d said Alison O’Neill, Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Design Studio for Mattamy’s GTA Urban Division. \u201cThe best way for Mattamy to continue supporting Canadians is by building more homes and communities in the urban centres where they are needed most.\u201d<\/p>\n
