{"id":12713,"date":"2023-02-05T17:02:57","date_gmt":"2023-02-06T01:02:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/green-light-for-275m-hs2-midlands-nerve-centre\/"},"modified":"2023-02-05T17:02:58","modified_gmt":"2023-02-06T01:02:58","slug":"green-light-for-275m-hs2-midlands-nerve-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/green-light-for-275m-hs2-midlands-nerve-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"Green light for \u00a3275m HS2 Midlands nerve centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/files\/membership-default-internal\/\" class=\"memberhide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/01\/20220718_175041000_iOS.jpg\" alt=\"-\"><\/a><br\/><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The site north-east of Birmingham city centre is where HS2 trains will be maintained, serviced and stored when not in use, and includes the Maintenance Building, Network Integrated Control Centre (NICC) and Cleaners and Drivers Building.<\/p>\n<p>A contractor for the job is due to be chosen this autumn from a shortlist of Turkish construction giant Gulermak Agir Sanayi Insaat and JVs of Vinci\/Keltbray and VolkerFitzpatrick\/VolkerRail.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-ad-id=\"470321\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.limelightonlhoist.com%2Flevelblue%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Demolition and groundworks on the site is currently being carried-out by a Laing O\u2019Rourke\/Murphy JV.<\/p>\n<p>Kay Hughes, HS2\u2019s Design Director said: \u201cGood functional design has been a vital part of developing the plans for the Depot, including ensuring this new large-scale facility contributes to improving a significant area on the outskirts of Birmingham, and streamlining operations for the railway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur design team have worked closely with the Council to make sure we deliver the right design for the local area, which we can all be proud of.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-ad-id=\"153404\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcampaign.causeway.com%2Fbridging-the-gap-contractors-authorities-ajvp%3Futm_source%3DConstruction%2BEnquirer%26utm_medium%3DMPU%26utm_campaign%3DAJVP%26utm_id%3DAJVP%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/02\/causeway MPU 300 x 250 Gif (1).gif\" alt=\"-\"><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Maintenance Building will be the primary hub of operations within the site, used to maintain the HS2 train fleet along with facilities to store materials and equipment.<\/p>\n<p>It includes office accommodation, workshops and staff welfare facilities. Around 250 staff will work in the building, including facilities management, fleet management, production, cleaning, and depot drivers.<\/p>\n<p>The Network Integrated Control Centre will oversee the whole HS2 network and is located centrally within the Washwood Heath depot site. This will be a standalone building, designed to accommodate the operational and management functions of the HS2 network. This building will be linked to the stabling yard area, where trains will be cleaned and replenished, ready for passenger service.
