EDMONTON \u2014 Edmonton-based Stantec recently announced it has been selected as the prime consultant for Highland Fairview\u2019s World Logistics Center project in Moreno Valley, Calif.<\/p>\n

The estimated US$25 billion project will be constructed over seven years and will be the largest planned logistics and business park in North America, serving as a distribution centre for destinations across North America, stated a release.<\/p>\n

The development, targeting net-zero, will contain over 40 million square feet of facilities over 2,600 acres, including streets, cafes, restaurants, spaces for arts and culture, breweries and public space.<\/p>\n

Stantec\u2019s work will include civil engineering, industrial buildings architecture, geomatics, water and wastewater design, landscape architecture, urban planning, AV consulting and funding consulting as well as energy and innovation design.<\/p>\n

With 40-plus million square feet of rooftops, Stantec said there is significant potential for solar power integration. Stantec will examine the use of battery storage and microgrids onsite, with the expectation that the facility will not have to rely on the external power grid.<\/p>\n

Facility design is expected to result in a 70-per-cent reduction in water usage compared to the current general plan for the City of Moreno Valley. Drainage through the site will be treated before it is discharged.<\/p>\n

The facility will be EV-ready, with 1,080 charging stations committed. Chargers will be available for freight and logistics vehicles, employees and visitors.<\/p>\n

Autonomous vehicle technology is also being explored for the site through Stantec\u2019s autonomous vehicle consulting arm, Stantec GenerationAV<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Stantec\u2019s project team will include 300 employees in civil and electrical engineering, urban planning and other disciplines. A core team will be co-located with Highland Fairview on the project site, with additional resources supporting from across North America.<\/p>\n

Michael Baker International<\/a> will design the interchange for access to the site, ENGEO Engineering<\/a> will provide geotechnical engineering and Dudek<\/a> will provide environmental permitting.<\/p>\n

Project design is currently underway, with construction slated to start this year. The project will add six million square feet per year until projected completion in 2030.<\/p>\n

The World Logistics Center is in the centre of Southern California\u2019s Golden Triangle, a region that encompasses Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego Counties. More than 40 per cent of goods coming to the U.S. pass through the Golden Triangle.<\/p>\n
