{"id":13110,"date":"2023-02-13T17:31:12","date_gmt":"2023-02-14T01:31:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/tolent-now-in-administration-construction-enquirer-news\/"},"modified":"2023-02-13T17:31:18","modified_gmt":"2023-02-14T01:31:18","slug":"tolent-now-in-administration-construction-enquirer-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/tolent-now-in-administration-construction-enquirer-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Tolent now in administration | Construction Enquirer News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/files\/membership-default-internal\/\" class=\"memberhide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/01\/20220718_175041000_iOS.jpg\" alt=\"-\"><\/a><br\/><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The news was officially confirmed on Monday afternoon as 313 Tolent staff were made redundant while <span lang=\"IT\">91 staff were retained by the administrators to \u201cassist them whilst they explore any possibility of a sale of the businesses and their assets.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-6756127605166014522BodyA\"><span lang=\"IT\">James Lumb and Howard Smith from Interpath Advisory have been appointed Joint Administrators to Tolent plc and five of its operating subsidiaries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The firms are <span lang=\"IT\">Tolent plc, <u\/><u\/><\/span><span lang=\"IT\">Tolent Construction Limited, <u\/><u\/><\/span><span lang=\"IT\">Tolent Homes Limited, <u\/><u\/><\/span><span lang=\"IT\">Ravensworth Properties Limited, <u\/><u\/><\/span><span lang=\"IT\">Tolent Living Limited and <u\/><u\/><\/span><span lang=\"IT\">Tolent Solutions Limited.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-ad-id=\"163817\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.constructionenquirer.com%2Fdirectory%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Gateshead based group also has <span lang=\"IT\">offices in Leeds, Stockton-on-Tees and Shotton Colliery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-6756127605166014522BodyA\"><span lang=\"IT\">The administrators said <\/span><span lang=\"IT\">Tolent has \u201cfaced significant challenges including the rising costs of raw materials, supply chain issues, material and labour shortages, and the collapse of a number of developers, contractors and supply chain partners.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-6756127605166014522BodyA\">O<span lang=\"IT\">ne of Tolent\u2019s major contracts \u2013 the \u00a385.5m Milburngate development in Durham \u2013 became significantly loss-making, which had a profound impact on the companies\u2019 working capital. <\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-ad-id=\"441661\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.procore.com%2Fen-gb%2Fcasestudies%2Fhenry-boot-construction%3Futm_medium%3DDisplay%26utm_source%3D3rd-Party-Display%26utm_campaign%3DDIS-23-Q1-3rd-Party-Display-UKI-Construction_Enquirer%26utm_term%3DMPU_January%26utm_content%3DHenry_Boot_Case_Study%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/02\/1676338271_531_PRO0250 LC MPU Banner_300x250px.gif\" alt=\"-\"><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"m_-6756127605166014522BodyA\"><span lang=\"IT\">James Lumb, Managing Director at Interpath Advisory and Joint Adminisrator, said: \u201cTolent is one of the most well-known construction firms in the North East, having been involved in landmark projects including Riverside Sunderland, the Hadrian\u2019s Tower residential scheme and the \u00a385.5m Milburngate development in Durham.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-6756127605166014522BodyA\"><span lang=\"IT\"><u\/>\u00a0<u\/><\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201cHowever, like many businesses across the UK\u2019s building and construction sector, the Group has been battling severe headwinds, including spiralling costs, labour shortages and also the loss of other companies within its suppy chain, all of which unfortunately resulted in one of its major contracts becoming loss-making.<u\/><u\/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-6756127605166014522BodyA\"><span lang=\"IT\"><u\/>\u00a0<u\/><\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201cFollowing the tapering off of the Government\u2019s COVID support schemes, and in the wake of recent economic volatility, access to finance has tightened for many companies across the sector. In a sector which typically operates on wafer-thin margins, this can often prove to be insurmountable, and unfortunately, so has been the case for Tolent.\u201d <u\/><u\/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-6756127605166014522BodyA\"><span lang=\"IT\">Lumb continued, \u201cOur priority in the coming days is to work with key stakeholders to assess options for each of the Companies, including options for ongoing contracts and live projects. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-6756127605166014522BodyA\"><span lang=\"IT\"><u\/>\u00a0<u\/><\/span><span lang=\"IT\">\u201cWe will also be providing support to those employees who have been impacted by redundancy, including providing them with the guidance and information they need to be able to make claims from the Redundancy Payments Office.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the Milburngate development said: \u201cThe current building work at the Milburngate is very near to completion.
