TI <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.micron.com\/about\/blog\/2021\/october\/micron-completes-sale-of-lehi-fab-to-texas-instruments#:~:text=In%20June%202021%2C%20we%20announced,part%20of%20the%20TI%20community.\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>acquired that plant in October 2021<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span><span><span><span><span><span> from Micron, a Lehi-based semiconductor manufacturing company.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Once completed, the two plants will operate as a single fab, according to the company.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>The plant will manufacture tens of millions of analog and embedded processing chips daily that will enter electronics markets worldwide. The expansion project will also create approximately 800 additional TI jobs as well as \u201cthousands of indirect jobs,\u201d according to the release.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>The project aims to achieve LEED Gold certification. For instance, plans include recycling water at nearly double the rate of the existing Lehi fab, according to the release.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>That\u2019s because large chip fab plants can use up to <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gradiant.com\/news\/water-scarcity-concerns-drive-semiconductor-industry-to-adopt-new-technologies-ieee-spectrum\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>10 million gallons of water a day<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span><span><span><span><span><span>, equivalent to the water consumption of roughly 300,000 households, according to Gradiant, a Woburn, Massachusetts-based water solutions provider.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Texas Instruments also has another mega construction project underway in the U.S..<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>The semiconductor company broke ground in May on its estimated <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.constructiondive.com\/news\/amid-domestic-semiconductor-wave-texas-instruments-begins-30b-build\/625430\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>$30 billion facility in Sherman, Texas<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span><span><span><span><span><span>, with production on that project expected to start in 2025.
