NEWMARKET, ONT. \u2014 A worker who was trapped under a beam at the Postmark Hotel under construction in Newmarket was taken to the hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries yesterday (Feb. 27).<\/p>\n
Emergency crews were called to the hotel on Main Street in Newmarket just before 1 p.m.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe received a call around 12:55 p.m. that a male worker was trapped under a beam and was transported to hospital by air ambulance,\u201d a media relations officer with York Regional Police wrote in an email to the Daily Commercial News.<\/p>\n
According to various media reports, a crane collapsed onsite, leading to the worker\u2019s injury.<\/p>\n
The constructor is Streetcar Construction Limited and the employer is Innovative Metal Works Inc.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development was notified of the incident. An inspector and engineer attended the scene.<\/p>\n
One requirement was issued to the constructor, Streetcar Construction Limited.<\/span><\/p>\n The investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
