BARRIE, ONT. \u2014 Representatives for Con-Drain Company (1983) Ltd., the construction firm charged in the deaths of six young people at a jobsite in Barrie, Ont. last August, made a brief appearance in Barrie court March 13.<\/p>\n

Con-Drain has been charged with six counts of criminal negligence causing death in the deaths of Curtis King, River Wells, Jason O\u2019Connor, Luke West, Jersey Mitchell and Haley Marin. Police investigators determined an automobile crash occurred around 6 a.m. on Aug. 27 while the victims were thought to be on their way to a nearby casino.<\/p>\n

The bodies were discovered in the vicinity of the site of a City of Barrie sewer and watermain project at McKay Road and Veteran\u2019s Drive in Barrie at 2 a.m. the next morning, Aug. 28.<\/p>\n

At issue in the criminal case will be whether the defendant adequately prevented access to the site, which contained a large vertical shaft.<\/p>\n

A Barrie criminal court spokesperson said various administrative issues were dealt with March 13 before the case was adjourned. Con-Drain is next scheduled to appear in court April 17.<\/p>\n

The firm is being represented by Henein Hutchison Robitaille LLP of Toronto. The Crown prosecutor for the case is Kate Wright.<\/p>\n

None of the allegations have been proven in court.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
