{"id":14785,"date":"2023-03-28T17:18:56","date_gmt":"2023-03-29T00:18:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/second-phase-of-4-tower-parking-lot-redevelopment-rising-above-queen-east\/"},"modified":"2023-03-28T17:18:57","modified_gmt":"2023-03-29T00:18:57","slug":"second-phase-of-4-tower-parking-lot-redevelopment-rising-above-queen-east","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/second-phase-of-4-tower-parking-lot-redevelopment-rising-above-queen-east\/","title":{"rendered":"Second Phase of 4-Tower Parking Lot Redevelopment Rising Above Queen East"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/files\/membership-default-internal\/\" class=\"memberhide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/01\/20220718_175041000_iOS.jpg\" alt=\"-\"><\/a><br\/><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"article_body\">\n<p>Over the course of the last five years, the east side of Downtown Toronto has seen the activation of a transformative city building project, redeveloping the area&#8217;s largest remaining surface parking lot with an area of nearly 1 Hectare (about 100,000 ft\u00b2) into a high density multi-tower community.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Located at 88 Queen Street East, the project is a collaborative development effort between <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/urbantoronto.ca\/database\/companies\/st-thomas-developments-inc.8542\" target=\"_blank\">St Thomas Developments Inc.<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/urbantoronto.ca\/database\/companies\/fitzrovia-real-estate-inc.30019\" target=\"_blank\">Fitzrovia<\/a>, and encompasses a pair of towers from each developer across an entire city block, delivering a mix of rental and condominium units, retail spaces, offices, and new public realm. St Thomas&#8217;s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/urbantoronto.ca\/database\/projects\/88-north-88-queen-east.19019\" target=\"_blank\">88 North<\/a>\u00a0was completed in mid-2020 as the first phase, a condo with retail at the base and a new parkette to one side. Designed by <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/urbantoronto.ca\/database\/companies\/hariri-pontarini-architects.8001\" target=\"_blank\">Hariri Pontarini Architects<\/a> with <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/urbantoronto.ca\/database\/companies\/turner-fleischer-architects.8071\" target=\"_blank\">Turner Fleischer Architects<\/a> serving as the architects of record, the towers have made significant progress towards their final counts of 27 and 28 storeys. Since that time, the exterior has come a long way, with cladding and windows installed over half way up both towers. Also designed by Harriri Pontarini, the tower is growing steadily towards its eventual height of 51 storeys, and will soon claim the title of the tallest tower in the development. Pictured below a few weeks ago, we can see that the tower is formed up to the mid 20s, standing just shy of the halfway mark in its vertical climb. Pictured below on the tower\u2019s west elevation, the unitized curtain wall panels can be installed quickly through a simple mounting system on the edge of the floor slab.
