Pending these approvals, site construction work could start later this year, according to the release.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span><span><span><span><span>The project sits on a wider 2,500-acre plot originally set aside for a <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.constructiondive.com\/news\/work-on-94b-louisiana-plant-halted-10b-foxconn-project-also-in-trouble\/587894\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Foxconn manufacturing hub<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span><span><span><span><span><span>, which ultimately failed during former President Donald Trump\u2019s administration.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Dive Insight:<\/h3>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Pandemic impacts and withdrawals of promised state subsidies caused Foxconn, a Taiwanese electronics company, to <span><span>scale back plans<\/span><\/span> in October 2020 on its proposed $10 billion plant for the site.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Now, though the project proposal remains subject to vote, a number of officials have already voiced their support for the Microsoft investment.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Racine County executive Jonathan Delagrave said the county and state have been planning for a long-term future to accommodate development and investment by a variety of companies, like Microsoft.
