Operations are expected to start in late 2024.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Dive Insight:<\/h3>\n<p>Battery recyclers are upping their processing capacity as major automakers strike deals to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.supplychaindive.com\/news\/General-Motors-pursues-circular-battery-economy-through-Lithion-Recycling-partnership\/632511\/\" target=\"_blank\">recycle batteries and scrap<\/a> as well as procure <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.supplychaindive.com\/news\/ascend-honda-supplier-agreement-lithium-ion-battery-recycling-electric-vehicles\/643697\/\" target=\"_blank\">recovered critical materials<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Cirba Solutions hit the ground running with six processing facilities last summer. Now, it is working to grow its footprint and recently appointed a former Redwood Materials executive to head up its <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manufacturingdive.com\/news\/cirba-solutions-appoints-exec-battery-processing-footprint\/643344\/\" target=\"_blank\">expansion efforts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Along with multiple grants the company received under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to support work on its Ohio facility, Cirba Solutions said it will pour more than $1 billion into a sustainable, closed-loop battery supply chain over the next five years to meet growing demand for EV battery materials.<\/p>\n<p>The Richland County facility will be nestled into the country\u2019s emerging \u201cBattery Belt\u201d in the Southeast U.S., where automakers\u2019 EV plans have prompted <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manufacturingdive.com\/news\/bmw-battery-supplier-invests-810-million-gigafactory-ev-production-south-carolina\/638285\/\" target=\"_blank\">local investment from battery suppliers<\/a> in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Now, battery recyclers are positioning themselves to supply the growing number of battery plants popping up in the region.
