Taken yesterday, this was the first train to head southbound across the new transit infrastructure that allows north-south trains to cross over CP Rail’s east-west North Toronto subdivision. The new viaduct means that trains coming from different directions will no longer have to stop to wait for each other at the former level crossing, and that frequent two-way, all-day train service is a big step closer to beginning on the GO Barrie corridor.

<imgx alt="The first downbound GO test train kicks up dust as it exits Toronto's new Davenport Diamond Grade Separation" class="image-display_default" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="insert-display_default-8d39950d-d1e0-4539-9481-d177cd7889e4" data-insert-attach="{" id="" data-insert-class="image-display_default" data-insert-type="image" src="https://cdn.skyrisecities.com/sites/default/files/images/articles/2023/04/51938/51938-156108.jpg" onclick="photo('https://cdn.skyrisecities.com/sites/default/files/images/articles/2023/04/51938/51938-156108.jpg', true, ''); return false;" title="The first downbound GO test train kicks up dust as it exits Toronto's new Davenport Diamond Grade Separation, image by UrbanToronto Forum contributor crs1026"/>The first downbound GO test train kicks up dust as it exits Toronto’s new Davenport Diamond Grade Separation, image by UrbanToronto Forum contributor crs1026

Double-tracking of the corridor has to be completed first before the frequent service begins, which is quite a ways off still. In the meantime, the could of dust here will settle as rain gradually clears the dust from the new concrete pour, and especially the stone dust from the new ballast that supports the tracks. UrbanToronto will continue to follow milestones on this improved transit service, especially when the photos are this good!

Want to see your work featured as Daily Photo?
