{"id":15025,"date":"2023-04-04T09:08:17","date_gmt":"2023-04-04T16:08:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/mcalpine-planned-job-cuts-set-to-hit-london-office-hardest\/"},"modified":"2023-04-04T09:08:22","modified_gmt":"2023-04-04T16:08:22","slug":"mcalpine-planned-job-cuts-set-to-hit-london-office-hardest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/mcalpine-planned-job-cuts-set-to-hit-london-office-hardest\/","title":{"rendered":"McAlpine planned job cuts set to hit London office hardest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/files\/membership-default-internal\/\" class=\"memberhide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/01\/20220718_175041000_iOS.jpg\" alt=\"-\"><\/a><br\/><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Consultation with staff has just got underway with the firm saying the strategic restructure will lead to a 2.5% cut in total staff numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Among the big-name departures already confirmed Alison Cox, MD \u2013 London, and Ian Cheung, MD\u00a0 \u2013 Southern, are stepping down.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-ad-id=\"142065\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fplantworx.co.uk%2F%3Futm_source%3DConstruction_Enquirer%2B%26utm_medium%3DWebsite_MPU%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Sources told the <em>Enquirer<\/em> that the majority of the planned 60 jobs are rumoured to coming from McAlpine\u2019s London operation, although the firm said it was too early to comment on details.<\/p>\n<p>One source told the <em>Enquirer<\/em>: \u201cThe rumour is the staff could be halved at the London office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McAlpine said that there was no plan at present to close any regional offices.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-ad-id=\"454840\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fukcw-london-2023.reg.buzz%2Fconstruction-enquirer%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/03\/UKCW-London-23-300x250_1.gif\" alt=\"-\"><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The contractor said it would become a leaner business and now prioritise sectors where it has been most successful.\u00a0 Target markets include healthcare, commercial offices, industrial, as well as the heritage and complex schemes delivered by its Major &amp; Special Projects team.<\/p>\n<p>It is simultaneously growing the rail, transport and nuclear sectors of its infrastructure business. This will drive profitable growth and minimise its exposure to ongoing geo-political and market risks.<\/p>\n<p>The Building team will be headed up by former strategy director at Sir Robert McAlpine, Grant Findlay, who will be returning to the business after leaving in April 2022.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-ad-id=\"454840\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fukcw-london-2023.reg.buzz%2Fconstruction-enquirer%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/03\/UKCW-London-23-300x250_1.gif\" alt=\"-\"><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Tony Gates remains MD of the Infrastructure team.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Hamer, chief executive, said: \u201cThe challenges that the industry is currently facing are exceptional and unprecedented.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this turbulent market, we owe it to our people and our clients to carefully consider how we apply our focus and expertise over the coming years to seize the opportunities that will support us to thrive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese changes are needed to enhance our operational agility. They mean we can move rapidly while generating improved efficiency and productivity.
