After months of anticipation, the first substantial portion of The One<\/a>\u2019s signature champagne-tinted cladding has been installed on the future \u2018supertall\u2019 tower\u2019s north elevation. While the first traces of the metal finish on the\u00a0Mizrahi Developments<\/a>\u00a0project date back to December of last year, this latest progress shows off the material in a much more prominent context, and with the protective film removed, allowing the colour of the metal panelling to be seen in direct light across a continuous multi-storey surface of the Foster + Partners<\/a>\u00a0and Core Architects<\/a>-designed tower.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The metal cladding panels cover the extent of floors three to six on the tower\u2019s east \u2018mega-column\u2019 on the north side, one of the eight large structural columns that define the building\u2019s exterior expression. Installation of the panels began in the last week of March, and continued into the first week of April, culminating with the installation of the horizontal-spanning section along the third floor slab, and the diagonal span that traces the line of the corner hanger behind it, bisecting the third-floor glazing panels.<\/p>\n

With the length of the mega-column treated with cladding, the protective film was finally removed on Thursday April 6, revealing the champagne finish beneath – just in time to be pictured under clear skies and afternoon light.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Each vertical section, spanning the full 6-metre height of each of the tower\u2019s first several floors above the grade level (ground level itself is about double that), consists of three cladding panels that cover each exposed face of the mega-column, drawing attention to the octagonal shape of the robust structural members. Across the sections without cladding, pieces of insulation can be seen in narrow vertical strips covering the gaps between each panel of glazing to add another layer of thermal barrier beneath the coming cladding.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Looking up at the fifth level where the mega column will see an intersection with the diagonal spanning section for the lowest corner hanger. While the diagonal cladding is not yet in place, we can see a total of seven projecting points on the easternmost vertical panel that will allow the two pieces of cladding to be fixed together in a seamless manner.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With insulation in place across the cladding spaces of the northern elevation\u2019s lower levels, we can expect floors three to six to be the first section of the building to see full exterior finishes. Just one floor up, the tower is awaiting its first panels of glazing for the standard three-metre-high repeating floors, while approximately 20-storeys above, forming work continues to deliver new floors for the growing tower almost every week.\u00a0<\/p>\n
