New York City Football Club has picked hometown favorite Turner Construction to build its new $780 million stadium, a venue the team says will be the first soccer-specific arena in the city.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The 25,000-seat stadium on Willets Point between LaGuardia Airport and Flushing in Queens will be the anchor for a larger undertaking by Queens Development Group, a joint venture between New York-based Related Companies and Great Neck, New York-based Sterling Equities,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>according to a news release<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>. The project will include 2,500 units of affordable housing, a new public school for 650 children, a hotel and open spaces.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

New York City FC tapped HOK to design the stadium, with a goal for completion in time for the 2027 Major League Soccer season.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Before that can happen, though, the project needs approval under New York\u2019s Uniform Land Use Review Procedure and a final nod from the city\u2019s Public Design Commission. NYCFC said the review process will begin later this year.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

New York-based Turner and St. Louis-based HOK have completed more than 400 projects together, according to the release.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Brad Sims, the football club\u2019s CEO, pointed to Turner\u2019s experience building over a dozen MLS Stadiums. Those include the<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>$200 million stadium<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> for Cincinnati FC and the<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>$150 million DC United stadium<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTurner is recognized as a leading builder of stadiums, arenas and ballparks,\u201d Sims said in the release.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Turner, which is the largest general contractor in the U.S. by revenue, also worked on the<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>$5.5 billion SoFi Stadium<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> and the<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>$2 billion Intuit Dome<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, both in Los Angeles, as well as the<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>$930 million Levi\u2019s Stadium<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> near San Francisco.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Stakeholders expect the new soccer stadium and development to generate more than 14,200 local jobs during construction, with 1,550 permanent positions created upon completion, according to the release.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
