The A\u2019s have played in Oakland since 1968.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span><span><span><span><span>MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred provided a statement to the Review-Journal, supporting the A\u2019s move to Southern Nevada.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"standard-heading\"><span><span><span><span><span><span>Dive Insight:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>For years, the <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.constructiondive.com\/news\/athletics-likely-to-get-new-stadium-in-or-out-of-oakland\/600540\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>franchise negotiated with Oakland<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span><span><span><span><span><span> to secure a new venue, and for three years the team tried to build a waterfront ballpark at Howard Terminal in Oakland \u2014 a plan that never came to fruition. Then, in May 2022, the MLB announced the Coliseum was no longer a viable option for the future of the league or the team, encouraging the franchise to seek other markets.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Thus far, the A\u2019s have purchased just the land for an undisclosed amount. Seller Red Rock Resorts, parent company of Station Casinos, will still own about 50 acres of land in the area when the deal is fully inked.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>The site of the future arena will develop the city\u2019s \u201csports district,\u201d Kaval said, as it is just over a mile north of the home of the NFL\u2019s Las Vegas Raiders. Formerly based in Oakland, the Raiders shared the Coliseum with the Athletics until 2019 when they moved to the $1.97 billion Allegiant Stadium, <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.constructiondive.com\/news\/197b-allegiant-stadium-reaches-end-zone\/582896\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>built by a Mortenson-McCarthy joint venture<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span><span><span><span><span><span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>In building the stadium, the A\u2019s will seek to secure funding through a public-private partnership with state and city officials, the Review-Journal reported.
