UrbanToronto is thrilled to announce that we have partnered with the online platform CityAge as a sponsor for their upcoming event: CityAge Toronto. Framed around the topic of population growth, the summit event will see a number of speakers from across the development and tech industries dig into some of the approaches and investments that can help both Toronto and the rest of Canada manage the population boom expected in the coming decade.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The event is scheduled to take place next Wednesday, April 26th, at First Canadian Place\u2019s Lennox Hall, located in Downtown Toronto. Tickets are still available for the event, which runs from 8:30 to 1:30 p.m, and can be purchased at the link here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The goal of the summit is to explore a simple question: Is Canada ready for the next 10 million Canadians? With immigration bringing upwards of 500,000 new residents to the country every year, cities like Toronto need to be prepared to accommodate a quickly growing population not only with housing, but with infrastructure as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Maintaining livability, combating climate change, and creating a vibrant urban environment requires new thinking on topics such as transportation, urban design, and energy; but how exactly these topics can be reimagined is not a question with a simple answer, and will be interrogated at length at the event, with a focus on highlighting the ways responding to this population growth can make our cities better.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The event will be broken up into four different panels, which will focus on the following topics: innovative housing, decarbonizing Canada\u2019s cities, the new metropolis (the future of urban design in the region), and innovative transit. Some of the speakers engaging in presentations and discussions on these panels include Rick Leary, CEO of the TTC, Micahel Norton, Chief Development officer at Metrolinx, and Jag Sharma, CEO of Toronto Community Housing, to name a few. The summit will mark CityAge\u2019s first event in Toronto, following a number of successful city-focussed events in urban centres such as New York City and Vancouver, as well as a series of more general events focussing on topics like the circular economy and the tech revolution. As an online platform, CityAge specializes in investigating viable strategies for creating healthy urban communities, and interacts with their audience through online and in-person events, and multimedia content including podcasts, news coverage, and reports.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
