Beyond Mississauga\u2019s burgeoning City Centre, development in the western GTA municipality has found a strong footing along the major north-south spanning corridor of Hurontario Street. Among the raft of projects dominated by large multi-tower communities, Emblem Developments<\/a>\u2019 Artform<\/a> project is slated to occupy the lower end of the spectrum in terms of scale, focussing instead on design rather than density. With the project now topping off at 17 storeys, the exterior finishes are beginning to bring life to its concrete frame.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Looking at the progress of the building from the top down, we can see that the tower\u2019s 17th and final floor is formed and set, bringing the building close to structural completion. Still in progress though, is the forming of the rooftop mechanical level.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Referring to the image below, we can see that the structure will eventually extend further to the right, meeting what is currently an empty concrete form. Once this final area is completed, the crew will be able to take down one of the two cranes active on the site, while the second will be removed later, once the cladding process has advanced further.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, down by ground level, advances on the building\u2019s exterior are being made while forming of the tower is ongoing. One of the project\u2019s defining design features, found across the podium, will be able to move forward thanks to these efforts; in the image below, we can see cinder block dividers installed in narrow vertical strips on the east and north elevations; these columns of cinder block will act as the base for masonry cladding treatment to be mounted upon, bringing both material and colour contrast to the project.\u00a0<\/p>\n

More recently, the first traces of the slick curtainwall glazing that will clad the tower\u2019s northern face were seen directly above the podium. With no balconies programmed on this elevation, the design instead opted for a contemporary facade that brings light into these units while reducing clutter in the overall expression.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As for the west elevation, the cladding treatment of glazing and dark metal panelling has been installed much more thoroughly, with the podium now completely sealed on this western face, and cladding beginning on the lowest levels of the tower.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Designed by Studio JCI<\/a>, Artform has now turned the corner from concrete work to finishing work, and will see its defining design features across the exterior and interior come together in the coming months. Upon completion, the building will deliver a total of 336 new units to a site that enjoys immediate proximity to the impending Hurontario LRT as well as the Dundas BRT.\u00a0<\/p>\n
