{"id":17053,"date":"2023-05-14T23:02:52","date_gmt":"2023-05-15T06:02:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/thames-water-to-spend-extra-700m-on-cutting-leaks\/"},"modified":"2023-05-14T23:02:57","modified_gmt":"2023-05-15T06:02:57","slug":"thames-water-to-spend-extra-700m-on-cutting-leaks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/thames-water-to-spend-extra-700m-on-cutting-leaks\/","title":{"rendered":"Thames Water to spend extra \u00a3700m on cutting leaks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/files\/membership-default-internal\/\" class=\"memberhide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/01\/20220718_175041000_iOS.jpg\" alt=\"-\"><\/a><br\/><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">Industry regulator Ofwat has backed\u00a0 Thames releasing an extra \u00a3700m to tackle water leakage in the Capital with 112km pipeline replacement programme.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">At Price Review 19, the regulator conditionally granted Thames \u00a3300m to enhance the performance of its London water network subject to first meeting some set targets. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">Thames Water has since met the agreed requirements and committed a significant shareholder investment of \u00a3400m in water supply.<\/span><span class=\"eop\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">The \u00a3300m will now be pumped into future-proofing London\u2019s pipework, helping to reduce leaks and protect our water supply. <\/span><span class=\"eop\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Firms expected to benefit from the raised spend include: Murphy, Barhale, Morrison Utility Service, Galliford Try.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">In line with Ofwat\u2019s approval, Thames Water has now agreed to:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\">1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <span class=\"normaltextrun\">Reduce the number of leaks across London by 2030 \u2013 saving 27.8 megalitres per day and reducing the number of mains repairs by 208 times per year <\/span><span class=\"eop\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\">2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <span class=\"normaltextrun\">Delivering the Future London Strategy \u2013 including ambitious plans to reduce leakage by 50%<\/span><span class=\"eop\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"eop\">3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span class=\"normaltextrun\">Assessing pipework across the city to see if it\u2019s fit for the future\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"eop\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">Nevil Muncaster, London Operations Director at Thames Water, said: \u201cFixing the basics is a key part of our ambitious turnaround plan. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">\u201cWe are always closely assessing our infrastructure and are pleased that Ofwat backed our business case to replace 112km of our leakiest water mains pipes across London. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">\u201cWe believe in making every drop count and once complete this ambitious project with help us to save 27.8 megalitres of water every single day- that\u2019s equivalent to 11 Olympic-sized swimming pools.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">\u201cOur shareholders have also provided a substantial \u00a3400m investment to ensure we can improve our operations and outcomes for customers, whilst increasing our resilience.\u201d <\/span><span class=\"eop\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-5143531171910809\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- News - Bottom -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-5143531171910809\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"8320848692\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/2023\/05\/12\/thames-water-to-spend-extra-700m-on-cutting-leaks\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">This article was originally posted at Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Industry regulator Ofwat has backed\u00a0 Thames releasing an extra \u00a3700m to tackle water leakage in the Capital with 112km pipeline &#8230;
