{"id":17617,"date":"2023-05-29T05:28:41","date_gmt":"2023-05-29T12:28:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/mortenson-targets-zero-carbon-on-74m-engineering-building-in-washington-state\/"},"modified":"2023-05-29T05:28:42","modified_gmt":"2023-05-29T12:28:42","slug":"mortenson-targets-zero-carbon-on-74m-engineering-building-in-washington-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/mortenson-targets-zero-carbon-on-74m-engineering-building-in-washington-state\/","title":{"rendered":"Mortenson targets zero carbon on $74M engineering building in Washington state"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Minneapolis-based Mortenson Construction broke ground May 20 on the $73.6 million Kaiser Borsari Hall on Western Washington University\u2019s campus in Bellingham, Washington, the company announced Monday.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>The future electrical and computer engineering, energy science and computer science facility will be the first publicly funded, zero-energy building on a university campus in Washington state, according to a release shared with Construction Dive.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Alumni, elected officials and leaders from design firm Perkins &amp; Will and Mortenson joined WWU alumni and leadership to turn dirt Saturday.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>The four-story, 54,000-square-foot facility targets zero carbon and zero energy certifications through the International Living Future Institute, <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mortenson.com\/newsroom\/wwu-breaking-ground-zero-carbon-zero-energy-facility\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>according to Mortenson\u2019s project page<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span><span><span><span><span><span>.
