It includes some of the largest contractors based or working in the U.S.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span><span><span><span><span>The task force is part of <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.agc.org\/climate-change\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>AGC\u2019s climate change initiative<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span><span><span><span><span><span>, which aims to shape climate change policies that impact the construction industry and reduce the industry\u2019s environmental impact.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"standard-heading\"><span><span><span><strong><span><span>Dive Insight:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>It\u2019s not easy to fully measure and report carbon emissions in construction \u2014 the number of elements to take into account can be overwhelming, and <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/climateleadership\/scope-3-inventory-guidance#:~:text=Scope%203%20Resources-,Description%20of%20Scope%203%20Emissions,scope%201%20and%202%20boundary.\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Scope 3 emissions or value chain emissions<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span><span><span><span><span><span> are particularly hard to account for. These include emissions from indirect elements of a project like waste processing, employee travel, mining and transporting materials and manufacturing machinery and tools.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Construction is <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/news-and-stories\/press-release\/co2-emissions-buildings-and-construction-hit-new-high-leaving-sector\" target=\"_blank\"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>one of the most polluting industries<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span><span><span><span><span><span>, producing 38% of all energy-related carbon emissions, and it is not on track to decarbonize by 2050, according to the United Nations. That date marks the Paris Agreement timeline to achieve net zero emissions, to keep global temperature increases from exceeding 2.7\u02daF in order to avoid the most catastrophic and irreversible consequences of climate change.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Right now, the construction industry doesn\u2019t have a clear measure of its own impact.
