{"id":18683,"date":"2023-06-27T12:50:41","date_gmt":"2023-06-27T19:50:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/equestrian-facility-in-the-winners-circle-taking-home-2022-cfba-project-of-the-year-award\/"},"modified":"2023-06-27T12:50:42","modified_gmt":"2023-06-27T19:50:42","slug":"equestrian-facility-in-the-winners-circle-taking-home-2022-cfba-project-of-the-year-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/equestrian-facility-in-the-winners-circle-taking-home-2022-cfba-project-of-the-year-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Equestrian facility in the winner\u2019s circle, taking home 2022 CFBA Project of the Year Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/files\/membership-default-internal\/\" class=\"memberhide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/01\/20220718_175041000_iOS.jpg\" alt=\"-\"><\/a><br\/><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>STRATFORD, ONT. \u2014 The Canadian Farm Builders Association (CFBA) recently held its 2022 Builder Awards competition and ceremony in Stratford, Ont.<\/p>\n<p>Entries were received in 10 categories and the submissions were assessed by attendees at the CFBA\u2019s annual conference, which was held the same day. \u00a0Winners were selected via a people\u2019s choice voting format.<\/p>\n<p>The Project of the Year Award was selected as the best entry across all categories and awarded as the best project entered for 2022. HFH Inc. took home the top spot for a 19-stall, 36,000-square-foot equestrian facility designed by HFH Inc. and engineered\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DesignLogix-Engineering-101635374639493\/\" target=\"_blank\">DesignLogix Engineering<\/a>. CFBA member suppliers included <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.agwaymetals.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Agway Metals<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/marspan.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mar-Span<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/systemequine.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">System Equine<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/lilcountrywoodshop.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lil\u2019 Country Woodshop<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Key features of the building include over 2,800 square feet of wraparound timber porches; 19 custom designed stalls and a spacious front door office; two large tackrooms for two equine businesses (trail riding and horse board); and two large viewing lounges.<\/p>\n<p>The Dairy Award was also awarded to\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hfhinc.ca\/index.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">HFH Inc.<\/a> The free-stall (four robot) dairy barn was designed by\u00a0HFH Inc.\u00a0and\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stonecrestengineering.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Stonecrest Engineering<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The facility includes a main barn, a milk house\/utility\/vet\/office area with wraparound timber porch; a manure pump room; sand free-stalls; a naturally-ventilated barn, four barn side curtain system; and a PVC clad ceiling with R40 insulation.<\/p>\n<p>Middlesex Concrete Forming won the Swine Award for a 3,000 head sow barn engineered by DesignLogix Engineering.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the highlights of the facility are a sow barn with feed room; an entrance area with office, lunchroom, clean entry\/shower area, utility rooms; and a 30-minute fire rated utility room; and an eight-foot-deep gutter with precast concrete post and beam construction.<\/p>\n<p>The Farm Storage Award was given to\u00a0HFH Inc. for a timber-frame storage barn with a solar roof design\u00a0 by HFH and engineered by\u00a0DesignLogix Engineering Inc. The barn was designed for the roof space to take the property off the grid. It was built with historic heritage and values in mind and all timbers used were Hemlock to echo the client\u2019s families sawmill business.<\/p>\n<p>The Other Livestock Award was awarded to\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/britespanbuildings.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Britespan Building Systems<\/a> for the west coast cattle expansion, a beef finishing facility designed by Rasenberg\u00a0Investments Limited c\/o Rasenberg Developments, MR Engineering and\u00a0Britespan and engineered by\u00a0MR\u00a0Engineering. CFBA member suppliers included <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sunnorth.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Sun-North Systems Ltd.<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mccannredimix.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">MCCann Redi-Mix<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stubbes.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Stubbe\u2019s Precast<\/a>. Some of the highlights include hot dipped galvanized truss and I beam design, high density polyethylene panels and overshot open ridge design.<\/p>\n<p>Middlesex Concrete Forming won the Poultry Award for the new layer chicken barn facility they designed which was engineered by\u00a0DesignLogix Engineering.<\/p>\n<p>The building features include a layer barn with egg room\/entrance, a manure storage pad and structural steel wind columns in walls.<\/p>\n<p>The Hobby and Recreational I Award went to\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.garafarm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gara Farm Buildings Inc.<\/a> for a 2,200-square-foot shop and entertainment building engineered by Stonecrest Engineering with suppliers <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.greenwoodconst.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Greenwood Construction Co Ltd.<\/a>, Agway Metals and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.carwal.ca\/ca\" target=\"_blank\">Car-Wal Garage Doors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_317596\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-317596\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-317596\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">COURTESY CFBA \u2014 Gara Farm Buildings Inc. won the Hobby and Recreational Award I for a new 2,200-square-foot shop and entertainment building. It was engineered by Stonecrest Engineering and included suppliers Greenwood Construction Co Ltd., Agway Metals and Car-Wal Garage Doors.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Key features include pine board and batten Maibec siding, stone veneer and Douglas Fir timber frame throughout. The project included contractor supplied project management from start to finish.<\/p>\n<p>The Hobby and Recreational II Award was given to HFH Inc. for a timber hobby barn engineered by DesignLogix Engineering Inc. The highlights are traditional Bank Barn design; engineered timber frame structure, constructed using new solid pine timbers and mortise and tenon connections, complete with oak dowels; and heavy timber floor joists and dormer framing.<\/p>\n<p>The Horse I Award was presented to HFH Inc. for a 14,000-square-foot stallion breeding barn it designed for race horses. The building includes a wash stall and teaser stall with opening window between stalls; four custom designed stalls with heavy gauge steel, extra tall and solid block walls; a lab room for testing, medicine and files storage; and boiler for in-floor heat system. It was engineered by DesignLogix Engineering Inc.<\/p>\n<p>HFH Inc. also won the Horse II Award for the same facility that won project of the year.<\/p>\n<p>The Commercial and Institutional Award was given to\u00a0HFH Inc. for a warehouse addition and new office it designed with DesignLogix Engineering Inc.
