Monthly payments to the defined pension scheme had increased to an annual payment of nearly \u00a312m, paid in monthly instalments.<\/p>\n

But a new deal reached with pension trustees will see the payment cut to \u00a33.3m a year, plus inflationary increases.<\/p>\n

The scheme funding position at 31 March 2022 was a deficit of \u00a325.1m \u2013 a funding level of around 97%.<\/span><\/p>\n

Going forward a<\/span>n assessment of the scheme funding position will be carried out each 31 March. If the funding level is more than 101%, Costain\u2019s contributions will stop for a year. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Alex Vaughan, chief executive officer, said: <\/span>\u201cThis is really positive news for all Costain\u2019s stakeholders.<\/p>\n
