The site will create over 300 jobs with the possibility for future growth.<\/li>\n<li>Construction on the Woodruff plant is expected to begin this fall, with operations anticipated to begin in 2026, a company representative told Manufacturing Dive in an email.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Dive Insight:<\/h3>\n<p>BMW\u2019s Woodruff battery facility is part of a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manufacturingdive.com\/news\/bmw-ev-electric-vehicle-production-south-carolina-battery\/635799\/\" target=\"_blank\">$1.7 billion investment<\/a>\u00a0by the automaker in its U.S. operations, including $1 billion to prepare its Spartanburg site for EV production.<\/p>\n<p>The battery assembly and EV plants are part of the German-based automaker\u2019s \u201clocal for local\u201d strategy, keeping battery and vehicle production locations close together, Markus Fallb\u00f6hmer, senior vice president of battery production at BMW AG, said in the release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are working consistently to advance the transformation to electromobility,\u201d Fallb\u00f6hmer said in a statement. \u201cCutting-edge production facilities for top-performance high-voltage batteries are a decisive factor in this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Woodruff site will operate without fossil fuels and use 100% green electricity, helping BMW to reach its goal of reducing its carbon dioxide emissions by 80% compared to 2019 levels by 2030.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The upcoming Woodruff plant is part of a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/in\/news-releases\/envision-aesc-and-bmw-group-announce-new-partnership-in-battery-cell-production-and-supply-840304270.html\" target=\"_blank\">partnership<\/a>\u00a0between BMW and Japan-based lithium battery manufacturer, which the two companies first announced last October.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>The upcoming Woodruff plant is part of a partnership between BMW and <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span><span><span>a <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Japan-based lithium battery manufacturer,<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/in\/news-releases\/envision-aesc-and-bmw-group-announce-new-partnership-in-battery-cell-production-and-supply-840304270.html\" target=\"_blank\">Envision AESC<\/a>,\u00a0<span><span><span><span><span><span>which the two companies first announced last October<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>. <span><span><span><span><span><span>As part of its investment in U.S. production, <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span><span><span>the battery manufacturer<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span><span><span><span> broke ground on its own <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manufacturingdive.com\/news\/bmw-battery-supplier-invests-810-million-gigafactory-ev-production-south-carolina\/638285\/\" target=\"_blank\">$810 million South Carolina plant<\/a> on Friday, which will produce batteries for BMW\u2019s Spartanburg EV factory.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Other foreign automakers are also ramping up EV and battery production in the U.S., launching networks of supplier plants surrounding their factories.\u00a0The Hyundai Motor Group is building a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manufacturingdive.com\/news\/third-hyundai-supplier-sets-up-factory-near-incoming-ev-plant\/640074\/\" target=\"_blank\">$5.5 billion manufacturing campus<\/a>\u00a0in Ellabell, Georgia, with its suppliers <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manufacturingdive.com\/news\/hyundai-suppliers-hanon-systems-woory-industrial-georgia\/653319\/\" target=\"_blank\">planting themselves nearby<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The company also created <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manufacturingdive.com\/news\/lg-energy-solution-hyundai-4-3b-joint-battery-cell-plant-georgia\/651422\/\" target=\"_blank\">a joint venture<\/a>\u00a0with LG Energy Solution to build a $4.3 billion battery cell plant, which will be adjacent to Hyundai\u2019s EV campus.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>[ad_2]<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructiondive.com\/news\/bmw-breaks-ground-700-million-battery-assembly-plant-woodruff-south-carolina\/654267\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">This article was originally posted at Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[ad_1] Dive Brief: BMW broke ground on a $700 million battery assembly plant in Woodruff, South Carolina,\u00a0on Tuesday.\u00a0 The 1-million-square-foot &#8230;
