SUDBURY, ONT. \u2014 The federal government through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation has announced $7.4 million in Rapid Housing Initiative funding for the Lorraine Street Affordable Housing project in Sudbury, Ont.<\/p>\n

The announcement took place June 29 on Lorraine Street, where the 40-unit transitional housing complex will be erected, with construction already begun. The federal government\u2019s allocation supplements the City of Greater Sudbury\u2019s contribution of $7 million.<\/p>\n

The City of Greater Sudbury will partner with the local hospital and Health Sciences North on the project to provide support services to households in need, particularly chronically homeless individuals, Indigenous populations and women. Support services will be provided through Health Sciences North\u2019s Assertive Community Treatment Team which specializes in mental health and addictions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Lorraine Street development provides affordable housing and clinical treatment services to individuals who are chronically homeless in our community, in alignment with the City\u2019s health priorities of mental health, housing and healthy streets,\u201d said Sudbury Mayor Paul Lefebvre in a statement. \u201cThis new complex will also help fill gaps and alleviate pressures on other services in our community, including the hospital, police services and social service agencies.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
