{"id":19137,"date":"2023-07-05T01:14:36","date_gmt":"2023-07-05T08:14:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/sparks-agree-7-wage-increase-from-2024\/"},"modified":"2023-07-05T01:14:42","modified_gmt":"2023-07-05T08:14:42","slug":"sparks-agree-7-wage-increase-from-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/sparks-agree-7-wage-increase-from-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Sparks agree 7% wage increase from 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/files\/membership-default-internal\/\" class=\"memberhide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/01\/20220718_175041000_iOS.jpg\" alt=\"-\"><\/a><br\/><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"post-476545\">\n\t<!-- .entry-header --><\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>The two-year deal for the industry also includes a 5% uptick in rates from 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Electrical Contractors\u2019 Association chief negotiator Andrew Hutchins said: \u201cThe last few years have been difficult, and it is beneficial to have some certainty at a time when the wider economy is unpredictable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThis agreement gives us an opportunity to work with Unite on longer-term ambitions to update and modernise the industry to improve skills for a low carbon economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Unite National Officer, Jason Poulter, said: \u201cUnite\u00a0members have voted to accept a two-year which will create economic certainty for them for the lifetime of the deal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cOur members recognise the benefits of direct employment and collective bargaining delivering enhanced sick pay, private medical cover, and insurances to give essential peace of mind.\u201d<span class=\"s2\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"break-out-box\">\n<h3>JIB deal<\/h3>\n<hr>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Year 1 \u2013 from 1 January 2024<\/b><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\">7% increase to rates<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">\u00a320 increase to weekly sick pay for all grades during weeks 3 to 24 \u2013 therefore providing:<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">\u00a3210 per week for a Technician<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">\u00a3200 per week for an Approved Electrician<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">\u00a3190 per week for an Electrician<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">\u00a3180 per week for others as defined in clause 1.3 note(a) of Section 9 of the JIB Handbook<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">\u00a310 increase to weekly sick pay for all grades (as above) during weeks 25 to 52.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Year 2 \u2013 from 6 January 2025<\/b><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\">5% increase to rates<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">\u00a310,000 increase to death in service benefit \u2013 therefore up from \u00a330,000 to \u00a340,000<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">A \u2018recoupment\u2019 arrangement for sick pay \u2013 an arrangement to reimburse the 2nd week of absence after an employee has been off sick for 8 weeks.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">50p \u2013 \u00a32 responsibility money \u2013 increased from 10p \u2013 \u00a31.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Other points agreed:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\">Lodging allowance will be increased on the anniversary dates in line with the usual process between JIB and HMRC using a formula set out by HMRC.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Agreement to review the level of remuneration payable to electrical installation apprentices and the position of electrical contracting wage levels.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">There is an agreement to include wording in the handbooks to outline the current statutory pension arrangement;
