Award: <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>Junction reconstruction of state Route 87 and Route 11<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> Balfour Beatty won an approximately $36 million contract from the North Carolina DOT to reconstruct the junction of state Route 87 and Route 11, according to an announcement the company shared with Construction Dive.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The project will take place near Sandyfield, which is northwest of Wilmington, in the state\u2019s southeast corner.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Balfour Beatty will build a grade-separated interchange, which will carry Route 11 over Route 87 and improve safety and mobility in Columbus County by shifting traffic onto a newly constructed bridge, according to the release.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The contractor will also build on and off ramps to connect the two highways. The improvement project will feature widened four lanes.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThis highway is an important corridor in southeastern North Carolina and a popular route to area beaches,\u201d said Drew Cox, North Carolina DOT Division 6 engineer, in the release. \u201cThe new interchange will vastly improve the safety, traffic flow and operation of this junction.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n This is at least the third project Balfour Beatty has won in North Carolina this year.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n In February, the company landed a <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>$242.35 million design-build contract<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> to improve the U.S. Highway 70 corridor, the future Interstate 42, between Raleigh and the Port of Morehead City to interstate standards. And in April, a JV led by Balfour Beatty won a <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>$650 million contract<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> for improvements to Raleigh-Durham International Airport.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Construction is expected to begin this summer with anticipated completion by the summer of 2026.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
