As one of the region&#8217;s oldest villages, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.markham.ca\/wps\/portal\/home\/about\/markham-heritage\/markham-history\/01-markham-history\" target=\"_blank\">established by settlers in 1794<\/a>, Unionville&#8217;s charming historic centre is a draw for residents and tourists alike. A kilometre to the south of the allure provided by the\u00a0village&#8217;s heritage buildings, the future is being embraced at\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/urbantoronto.ca\/database\/projects\/unioncity-south.51294\" target=\"_blank\">UnionCity South<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><imgx alt=\"UnionCity South, designed by Arcadis for Metropia\" class=\"image-display_default\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"insert-display_default-72e3a773-406b-4486-a35b-8e615a8b08b5\" data-insert-attach=\"{\" id=\"\" data-insert-class=\"image-display_default\" data-insert-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.skyrisecities.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/articles\/2023\/07\/53228\/53228-160061.jpeg\" onclick=\"photo('https:\/\/cdn.skyrisecities.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/articles\/2023\/07\/53228\/53228-160061.jpeg', true, ''); return false;\" title=\"Looking southeast to UnionCity South, designed by Arcadis for Metropia\"\/><span class=\"image-description\">Looking southeast to UnionCity South, designed by Arcadis for Metropia<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The project acts as the next phase of the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/urbantoronto.ca\/database\/projects\/unioncity.46532\" target=\"_blank\">UnionCity<\/a> development north of Enterprise Boulevard, on the east side of the Metrolinx-GO Stouffville rail corridor, both designed by\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/urbantoronto.ca\/database\/companies\/arcadis.8006\" target=\"_blank\">Arcadis \u2014 the Amsterdam-based global firm that acquired Toronto-based IBI Group in Fall 2022<\/a>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0for developer\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/urbantoronto.ca\/database\/companies\/metropia.7768\" target=\"_blank\">Metropia<\/a>. UnionCity has received zoning approval, with its first two towers sold and the third\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/unioncitycondosaccess.ca\/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwnrmlBhDHARIsADJ5b_mkmewANEt1RnmFaTWumRLVptf2ZBDySKeNcf_AQeVZ8by-Vq9d7ysaAjA6EALw_wcB\" target=\"_blank\">currently in sales<\/a>.\u00a0The developer is preparing to commence construction on that development in March 2024 as part of its master-planned community.<\/p>\n<p>Located generally northwest of Kennedy Road and Hwy 407, but more specifically south of Enterprise Boulevard at the northeast corner of University and YMCA boulevards, UnionCity South calls for a mixed-use development with six residential towers and six-storey podiums. Those plans did not proceed, and the new owner has now reinvigorated this previously dormant site. Each of the six towers would have four elevators. Meanwhile, Towers C and D would average about 89 units per elevator.<\/p>\n<p>The design also features a variety of commercial areas, including retail, office, and daycare spaces. The total gross floor area (GFA) for the site would add up to 204,680m\u00b2, with 10,000m\u00b2 dedicated to non-residential area. Residents and visitors would be able to access the site with a vehicular entrance for VIVA buses at the southeast corner. In addition, the site plan further incorporates 1,504 long-term and 376 short-term bicycle spaces.<\/p>\n<p>UnionCity South is part of a broader, cohesive vision for Unionville&#8217;s evolution that includes other significant developments. The aforementioned\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/urbantoronto.ca\/database\/projects\/unioncity.46532\" target=\"_blank\">UnionCity<\/a>\u00a0includes three mixed-use condominium buildings up to 44 storeys or 147.70m in height, totalling 1,350 residential units.
