Despite the slight drop in open jobs and a reduction in quits, <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>contractors\u2019 labor woes are far from over<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, according to Anirban Basu, chief economist for Associated Builders and Contractors.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cSome will focus on the fact that construction job openings declined in June,\u201d Basu wrote in the press release. \u201cBut the real story is that, despite massive interest rate increases and tighter credit conditions facing developers and others that purchase construction services, the number of unfilled jobs remains so elevated by historical standards.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Last month, Basu wrote that <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>workers wield more power<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> in labor negotiations, and that trend will continue in the coming months. That doesn\u2019t show signs of stopping.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n As contractors continue to indicate they intend to increase staffing over the next six months, many will continue to struggle to recruit and retain the skilled craftspeople they need to deliver projects, Basu said.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
