In October, 2022,\u00a0UrbanToronto attended a celebration<\/a>\u00a0marking the topping off of XO Condos<\/a>. Designed by Core Architects<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Turner Fleischer Architects<\/a>\u00a0for\u00a0Lifetime Developments<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Pinedale Properties<\/a>, the 14-storey development, located on the southwest corner of King and Dufferin at 1221 King Street West, went under construction in early 2020 and had faced supply chain issues owing to the pandemic \u2014 so topping off was a milestone worth celebrating. Less than a year later, XO Condos is now preparing for occupancy that starts in September.<\/p>\n

Milestones since the October 2022 topping off included the removal of the crane in late March, 2023. The scene from Dufferin Street, below, is one of anticipation, while trucks and a mobile crane reflect the buzzing activity. Up close, the brick-patterned precast panels contrast strikingly with the black metal cladding on upper storeys.<\/p>\n

In April, XO Condos towers over the the tangle of streetcar lines at King and Dufferin, the heritage bank building nestled into its side, highlighting the blend of history and modernity. The restored bank building will become retail space.<\/p>\n

The perspective from King Street reveals the north elevation’s red brick cladding and inset balconies. The brick is intended to harmonize with the heritage bank building, just a wedge of which we see to the left, ensuring a cohesive aesthetic.<\/p>\n

Come July, the building’s details are coming together as more of the finishes are applied, while the construction hoist remains, and abright green vapour barrier hint remaining areas to complete as work continues.<\/p>\n

Most recently, the sidewalks around the building are being rebuilt. Freshly planted tulip trees and greenery mark the King Street sidewalk in the image below, as the last pieces of the puzzle are placed that will integrate the new building with its neighbourhood.<\/p>\n

With only eight units remaining for sale, Lifetime Developments is commencing occupancy at XO Condos next month.<\/p>\n
