As the summer sun continues to shine over Southern Ontario, the construction season can often be a source of frustration for road users, but for others it is the sights and sounds of rapid transformation with numerous construction projects breaking ground. From towering residential skyscrapers to bustling industrial hubs, the area’s architectural landscape is evolving at an impressive pace \u2014 at a rate that can be hard to keep up with. Here’s a roundup of some of the most notable construction starts across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area from the past month:<\/p>\n

6061 Rutherford Road<\/a>

\nThis 3-storey residential project, from Gemini Urban Design<\/a> and designed by Flanagan Beresford Patteson Architects<\/a>, is carving out a distinctive space in Vaughan’s architectural tapestry. The project consists of a townhome community with 22 buildings located on the south side of Rutherford Road west of Simmons Street, and will bring 111 new units to the area.<\/p>\n

9151 Huntington Road<\/a>

\nThis industrial venture from\u00a0Anatolia Capital Corp<\/a>\u00a0is indicative of the Greater Toronto Area’s burgeoning industrial sector. Its two single-storey buildings, designed by\u00a0Ware Malcomb Architecture<\/a>, are rising on the southeast corner of Huntington Road and Rutherford Road in Vaughan.<\/p>\n

Huntington & Langstaff<\/a>

\nConsisting of a 2-storey office and 1-storey industrial building, this project is from developer\u00a0Royal Pine Homes<\/a> and designed by Baldassarra Architects Inc<\/a>. Another sign of the demand for industrial space, construction recently commenced on the project.<\/p>\n

VuPoint Condos<\/a>

\nSoaring to a height of 53 storeys, VuPoint Condos by Tribute Communities<\/a>\u00a0is designed by\u00a0Arcadis<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 the Amsterdam-based global firm that acquired Toronto-based IBI Group in Fall 2022.\u00a0Construction is in full swing for this trio of mixed-use condominium and commercial buildings, with its two shorter towers set to stand 49 and 46 storeys, on the northwest corner of Liverpool Road and Highway 401 in Pickering’s Town Centre.<\/p>\n

1103 Dufferin Street<\/a>

\nNestled in the vibrant heart of Toronto’s Dovercourt Village, 1103 Dufferin is a 3-storey residential project by EN2 Development<\/a>. Designed by\u00a0MGBA<\/a>, the project will bring eight rental units to this busy street.<\/p>\n

Television City<\/a>

\nTelevision City, a notable Hamilton project with twin 32-storey towers, will stand as a testament to the city’s vertical ascent. From\u00a0Lamb Development Corp<\/a> and designed by architects\u2014Alliance<\/a>, the site at 163 Jackson Street West was formerly the home of the CHCH television building. The project is an example of the added density and vertical growth that is defining this evolving area.<\/p>\n

1110-1170 Central Parkway West<\/a>

\nCarttera Private Equities<\/a>‘s industrial venture in Mississauga’s Erindale community is within walking distance of the Erindale GO station and also easily accessible via Highway 403. The 2-phase industrial development is located on the south side of Central Parkway West between Burnhamthorpe Road West and Erindale Station Road.<\/p>\n

41 Chatsworth Drive<\/a>

\nThis 4-storey residential project by Times Group Corporation<\/a> is designed by Kirshenblatt Urban Architecture<\/a>. Located in the serene Lawrence Park neighbourhood in the city’s north end, the four-storey condominium will bring 30 new units to the area on the southeast corner of Chatsworth Drive and Duplex Avenue.<\/p>\n

315 Spadina Avenue<\/a>

\nSituated in the bustling Chinatown district of Toronto’s vibrant downtown,\u00a0this 13-storey residential tower by developer Podium Developments<\/a> and designed by Montgomery Sisam Architects<\/a>, is on the northeast corner of Spadina Avenue and D’Arcy Street. Shoring rigs are onsite for this prime location set to stand 13 storeys and provide 219 residential units.<\/p>\n

McGibbon on Main<\/a>

\nBlending modern design with rich history, McGibbon on Main will stand in the heart of historic Georgetown. A 10-storey boutique building from developer\u00a0Amico Infrastructures<\/a>, and designed by Arcadis<\/a>, the site’s base incorporates the history of the McGibbon Hotel, with the 19th-century red brick facades restored as the podium. The project is bringing 169 new residential suites to this part of Halton Hills.<\/p>\n

265 Balliol Street<\/a>

\nSoaring 27 storeys high, 265 Balliol by Park Property Management<\/a>\u00a0and designed by BDP Quadrangle<\/a> is set to bring 233 new units to the Davisville Village neighbourhood. This infill project is replacing rental townhomes on the site and will sit west of a 26-storey residential building. Situated on the southwest corner of Balliol Street and Mt Pleasant Road, shoring work has begun on the project.<\/p>\n
