The month of August, 2023 gave Toronto its final stretch of the summer season, with the CNE, Taste of the Danforth, and other returning favourites taking place alongside a wave of construction and development. While these staples of the summer happened in central parts of the city, much of that development extended outwards throughout the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). Cities such as Mississauga and Hamilton are seeing large-scale projects as developers look beyond the city’s core to the Greater Toronto Area’s other municipalities.\u00a0Here is the latest roundup of the hottest news stories, Database files, and Forum threads on UrbanToronto from the month of August.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Our Top 10 Most Read News Stories:<\/strong><\/p>\n

We’re starting off this list not in Toronto, but in Hamilton; Core Development has proposed a 31-storey tower at 73 Hughson Street North<\/a>. The design by\u00a0McCallum Sather Architects<\/a>\u00a0joins a number of other projects in Downtown Hamilton soaring past the 30-storey mark as the area sees continued increased density and vertical growth.<\/p>\n

15.\u00a0Core Development Group Proposes 31-Storey Condo in Downtown Hamilton<\/a><\/p>\n

Moving up through the list, the 25- and 37-storey towers proposed at\u00a08 Shoreview Place<\/a>\u00a0would bring even greater vertical growth to Hamilton, this time iby the lake in the Stoney Creek part of that city. Meanwhile,\u00a0123 Railroad Street<\/a>\u00a0would see a 39-storey tower go up near the Brampton GO station, while\u00a0180 Burnhamthorpe Road West<\/a>\u00a0calls for towers standing 46 and 71 storeys in Mississauga City Centre. Near the top of the list, just behind the latest updates at\u00a0Union Station<\/a>, we have the master-planned development of\u00a0Richvale Village<\/a>\u00a0designed by\u00a0BNKC<\/a>\u00a0for\u00a0CTN Developments<\/a>\u00a0 in Richmond Hill.<\/p>\n

Venturing to the east end of the GTHA,\u00a0 CentreCourt<\/a>‘s ambitious masterplan for Pickering City Centre\u00a0sits at #19 in our Top 10 Database File rankings this month. UrbanToronto attended the unveiling event for the project in early August<\/a>, where guests learned more details about the first phase of the project<\/a>. with guest speakers including Pickering’s Mayor Kevin Ashe, CentreCourt\u2019s President Gavin Cheung, and Donald Schmitt of\u00a0Diamond Schmitt Architects<\/a>, the designer for the mixed-use community.<\/p>\n
