Award<\/span><\/span><\/strong>:\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>I-405 corridor improvement<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> Skanska USA, the American arm of the Sweden-based contractor and developer, has inked a <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>$834 million contract<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> with the Washington state DOT to make operational improvements to 4.5 miles of the I-405 corridor in Bothell, Washington.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The goal of the work, dubbed \u201cThe I-405, Brickyard to SR 537 Improvement Project,\u201d is to create a dual express toll lane from south of the I-405\/SR 522 interchange to the I-405\/SR 527 interchange.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The I-405-SR 167 corridor serves a growing region in the state, according to Washington DOT, and increases in population, business and jobs have placed <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>higher demand on transportation systems<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>. A major part of its transportation master plan, Washington DOT says, is to build the express toll lane from Puyallup to Lynnwood.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Project work will include new lanes, direct access ramps, infrastructure supporting the Stride Bus Rapid Transit program and new fish passage culverts.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The Sound Transit agency plans to make an inline station at a park and ride in Bothell, where it intends to launch the BRT along I-405. Work done by the improvement project will enable BRT vehicles to drive exclusively through the new express lanes, increasing reliability and reducing travel times.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Skanska will begin construction in November 2023, and anticipates delivery in late 2028.
