As we move into autumn, Cielo Condos<\/a> in Toronto’s vibrant Annex neighbourhood continues to make significant strides.\u00a0Located at 300 Bloor Street West between St George and Spadina stations on TTC Lines 1 and 2, the 29-storey tower developed by Collecdev<\/a>\u00a0and designed by KPMB Architects<\/a>\u00a0is nestled on the edge the University of Toronto’s St George Campus. The development is a new chapter for the site of the 19th century Bloor Street United Church.<\/p>\n

Following\u00a0our last update in August<\/a>, significant strides have been made in the construction process. Over 85% of shoring work for the residential parking area has been completed, with all caissons installed on the east, west, and south elevations. About 50% of the caissons are done on the north side. The bulk excavation north of the TTC tunnels marks another significant milestone in the project timeline, scheduled to commence the second week of September.<\/p>\n

Casting our gaze southward in August from within the site, steel I-beams staged across the floor of the site come into focus, primed for use in shoring operations. The structural steel frame for the facade retention of the historic Bloor Street United Church walls is also distinctly visible, while protective material shields interior parts of the structure from the weather during the construction period.<\/p>\n

Shifting our focus to the southeast, a concrete caisson and mobile crane become the focal point.\u00a0On the northern half of the site, the caisson emerges from a square slab at ground level, signifying ongoing shoring around the TTC tunnel.<\/p>\n

Panning the view southwestward, the extended jib of the mobile crane boom positions another concrete caisson near the hoarding along the southern edge of the property, while crew members aid in the procedure.<\/p>\n

With shoring nearing its completion, bulk excavation for the parking levels south of the TTC tunnels is slated to start in early October. Additionally, November, 2023 is expected to witness the completion of a temporary staging slab at the ground floor level, supported on structural caissons.<\/p>\n

Turning our attention eastwards, we see a row of I-beams anchored into the ground at regular intervals, demarcating the TTC tunnel below. To the left is the George C. Pidgeon House, to be restored and incorporated into the redevelopment while preserving a layer of historical richness to the Annex.<\/p>\n

Melding modern innovation with the storied history of the 19th-century Bloor Street United Church, upon completion, Cielo Condos will bring 284 residential units spread across 29 floors, reaching a height of 99m. The developer aims to fuse modern luxury with Toronto\u2019s rich cultural fabric, with construction in full swing for the bulk excavation in the coming months.<\/p>\n
