There are two ways to solve the issue:<\/p>\n<p>1) Establish behaviors and processes that prevent hazardous situations, to begin with.<\/p>\n<p>2) Monitor the site and alert about hazards.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the first approach does not seem to be enough or is not well-implemented. That\u2019s why several startups are promoting the latter strategy.<\/p>\n<p>One of them is\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.protex.ai\/\" target=\"_blank\">Protex AI<\/a>, an Irish firm that just announced that they\u2019d raised a total of $18 million of investment to help further grow their presence in Europe and North America.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s privacy-preserving AI platform plugs into existing CCTV infrastructure. It uses its computer vision technologies to capture unsafe events autonomously in various settings such as warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and ports.<\/p>\n<p>Another company with similar ideas is\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/anavision.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Anavision<\/a>. Their solution identifies and detects any target safety-related issues, for example, missing helmets, missing PPE vests, missing safety belts, smoking, or entering a danger zone in the construction site\u2019s area.<\/p>\n<p>There are tech companies that also talk about preventive safety. On AEC Business, I\u2019ve recently featured three of them:\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/aec-business.com\/intelligent-management-of-construction-safety-an-interview-with-josh-kanner\/\" target=\"_blank\">Newmetrix<\/a>,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/aec-business.com\/making-construction-safer-with-ai\/\" target=\"_blank\">ViAct<\/a>, and\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/aec-business.com\/kwant-ai-raises-millions-to-improve-construction-efficiency-and-safety\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kwant AI<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to preventing physical injuries and deaths, safety correlates with the profitability of a project.
