{"id":24613,"date":"2024-01-26T04:59:22","date_gmt":"2024-01-26T12:59:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/federal-indigenous-employability-investment-unveiled-in-kahnawake\/"},"modified":"2024-01-26T04:59:23","modified_gmt":"2024-01-26T12:59:23","slug":"federal-indigenous-employability-investment-unveiled-in-kahnawake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/federal-indigenous-employability-investment-unveiled-in-kahnawake\/","title":{"rendered":"Federal Indigenous employability investment unveiled in Kahnawake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/files\/membership-default-internal\/\" class=\"memberhide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2023\/01\/20220718_175041000_iOS.jpg\" alt=\"-\"><\/a><br\/><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<p>Jan. 25, 2024 \u2013 A $25 million federal investment into <span class=\"es-highlight\">Indigenous<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"es-highlight\">employability<\/span>\u00a0in Quebec will go a long way toward getting\u00a0<span class=\"es-highlight\">Indigenous<\/span>\u00a0people to become full players in the national economy, Employment Minister Randy Boissoneault said at the unveiling last Thursday in Kahnawake.<\/p>\n<div id=\"preview-body\">\n<p>\u201cEveryone benefits when\u00a0<span class=\"es-highlight\">Indigenous<\/span>\u00a0people are provided with the opportunities they need to fully participate in the workforce,\u201d Boissoneault said at the announcement, which was held at the First Nations Human Resources Development Commission of Quebec offices in the Kahnawake Business Complex. \u201cThe Skills and Partnership Fund empowers more\u00a0<span class=\"es-highlight\">Indigenous<\/span>\u00a0people with the training and resources they need to shape their own career path. We need to be able to have\u00a0<span class=\"es-highlight\">Indigenous<\/span>\u00a0people and communities become full players in the federal economy, and this investment will allow them to develop the skills they need to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The funding will be allocated to the FNHRDCQ for their project, Global Strategy for\u00a0<span class=\"es-highlight\">Indigenous<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"es-highlight\">Employability<\/span>. This project aims to increase the number of\u00a0<span class=\"es-highlight\">Indigenous<\/span>\u00a0people in employment or vocational training.<\/p>\n<p>Through this project, executive director Richard Jalbert said,\u00a0<span class=\"es-highlight\">Indigenous<\/span>\u00a0communities will be able to get the training they need to help improve their chances of finding jobs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the support of our nations, we are very excited for this announcement,\u201d Jalbert said. \u201cWe are a client-based operation, so when the client comes to us and is looking for support, now we are better positioned to be able to help them. It really confirms the capacity we have here in Quebec.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mohawk Council of Kahnawake Grand Chief Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer was also on hand and said she was optimistic for the future of the program, saying the community has a number of gaps in employment that have to be filled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need people in the gaming sector, in the tourism sector, as carpenters \u2013 we have contractors around town saying they can\u2019t take on any projects because they don\u2019t have any carpenters,\u201d she said. \u201cWe know there are going to be people retiring from executive positions in the next few years.
