Yorkville\u2019s Avenue Road corridor and its predominantly low- and mid-rise architecture is now punctuated with a new high-rise, as the 20-storey 89 Avenue Yorkville<\/a> has ascended to its mechanical penthouse. Designed by Richard Wengle Architect<\/a> for Armour Heights Developments<\/a>, the luxury condominium will provide a faux-historical aesthetic to this upscale Toronto neighbourhood.\u00a0<\/p>\n 89 Avenue had surpassed its halfway mark in UrbanToronto\u2019s last update<\/a> at the start of September, 2024. In the months since, construction has steadily advanced upwards along with cladding and glazing as final work progresses on the mechanical penthouse section.<\/p>\n Looking east in October, 2024, the eastern side, located behind Avenue Road, takes the spotlight. The two-storey podium volume extends towards the east property line of this narrow lot, spanning 1,100m\u00b2 and a depth of 80.95m. At grade, the site serves as a staging area for wooden formwork.<\/p>\n Installation of beige precast brick-patterned panels started on the south side wall in late September, followed by glazing installation in October. In this close-up view from November, 2024, the cladding is installed up to the sixth floor and portions of the seventh. Glazing panels with vertical mullions are installed to the same height, with the mullions complementing the cladding\u2019s muted tones.<\/p>\n From this aerial view looking southwest in November, 2024, 17 storeys are formed, with formwork underway for the 18th floor. Formwork can also be seen atop the podium, stored until it is needed. Cladding is installed up to the sixth floor of the north elevation. Adjacent to the site to the south is the curved east wall of condos atop the\u00a0Yorkville Village<\/a> shopping centre.<\/p>\n Later that month, a sweeping view looking southeast gives us a full look at the building\u2019s towering height over its neighbours, with low-rises on the west side of Avenue Road in contrast to the greater density eastward. The 18th storey is formed, with the 19th floor in progress. The construction hoist is positioned along the central west elevation, with the mast extending to about the 13th floor. Green weatherproofing materials line the facade below the seventh-floor step-back, signalling preparations for cladding along the Avenue Road frontage.<\/p>\n As of this month, the development has reached its full 20 residential floors, with concrete work advancing on the mechanical penthouse. The construction hoist mast now extends to the top of the structure. Cladding installation along the south elevation has progressed to the 12th floor.\u00a0<\/p>\n Rising to a height of 76.5m, 89 Avenue Yorkville will house just 28 luxury condominium units.<\/p>\n UrbanToronto will continue to follow progress on this development, but in the meantime, you can learn more about it from our Database file, linked below.
