With the North Tower having reached its prominent mechanical penthouse level,\u00a0CIBC SQUARE<\/a> is close to attaining its final shape on the Downtown Toronto skyline. As glazing is applied to the upper storeys and crown over the coming months, the topped-off tower will rise about three and a half metres taller than its completed sibling to the south. Designed by WilkinsonEyre Architects<\/a> and Adamson Associates Architects<\/a> for Hines<\/a> and Ivanho\u00e9 Cambridge<\/a>, the project represents Toronto’s largest new office complex in about thirty years.\u00a0<\/p>\n Along with the new office space, the complex has brought a new GO Bus Terminal, new retail, a POPS that bridges over the rail corridor between the towers, and will be extending the pedestrian PATH system from the Financial Core to growing areas to the east through\u00a0two new pedestrian bridges, one across Bay Street, and one across Yonge Street, both immediately north of the Union Station Rail Corridor.<\/p>\n The Bay Street PATH bridge was completed first. In the September, 2024 image above, its structure has been completed and it is fully glazed. Faintly visible through the glazing the north wall of the platform area at Union Station\u00a0can been seen, its windows forming a repeating pattern. The PATH will connect via the Front Street Level in Union Station to the second level at the CIBC SQUARE North Tower.<\/p>\n Below, in early January, 2025, we look southeast to the podium and where the Bay Street BATH bridge enters the complex. Some scaffolding along the podium has been removed since our last update<\/a>, while white tarp now provides sheltered areas for installation of the lobby glazing. A projecting canopy extends above the Bay Street forecourt.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Jumping back to October, 2024, this northeast-facing shot from over the exposed platforms at the east end of Union Station captures the podium as glazing was being applied to its upper floors. To the left, the recess is where public outdoor access will be gained to the enlarged POPS park deck that bridges over the tracks.<\/p>\n This southwest-facing December 10, 2024 image captures both podium from opposite it, and the Yonge Street PATH Bridge structure from above. Towering over it is the ongoing work on the North Tower and podium. Four storeys of curtain wall glazing panels have been installed on the southern volume of the podium, cantilevered over the rail corridor. Further glazing progress is visible along the upper right levels of the podium, where step-backs transition to the tower above. A scaffolding system, complete with stairs, is centralized within the podium volumes.\u00a0<\/p>\n A month later, the Yonge Street PATH bridge was fully glazed in with large glass panels along its north and south sides.
