The Ontario government and the Professional Engineers Government of Ontario (PEGO) bargaining team have announced a tentative collective agreement with the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS). If ratified, the four-year agreement would run until the end of 2026.<\/p>\n
PEGO-represented engineering and land surveying experts work in 11 ministries and agencies, performing project management, oversight and enforcement roles related to the provincial highway network, the Ontario Building Code, land surveying, fire safety, food and workplace safety, clean air, and safe drinking water. In addition to working on the government\u2019s ambitious $185 billion dollar infrastructure building plans, PEGO members also oversee the maintenance of more than $85 billion worth of already existing public infrastructure in Ontario, including the 400 series highways.<\/p>\n
The proposed agreement, which needs to be ratified by PEGO members, follows more than 18 months of bargaining and PEGO\u2019s first-ever strike action in its 35-year history.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur government was elected to build Ontario for the next generation, including building more roads, highways, hospitals and homes. This plan to build makes Ontario one of the most competitive jurisdictions in the world,\u201d stated Caroline Mulroney, president of the Treasury Board. \u201cIf ratified, today\u2019s four-year tentative agreement with PEGO delivers on that commitment by preventing unnecessary and costly delays to those critical infrastructure projects.\u201d<\/p>\n
