{"id":28761,"date":"2025-01-26T00:39:00","date_gmt":"2025-01-26T08:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/cement-free-concrete-block-construction-demonstrated\/"},"modified":"2025-01-26T00:39:00","modified_gmt":"2025-01-26T08:39:00","slug":"cement-free-concrete-block-construction-demonstrated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/cement-free-concrete-block-construction-demonstrated\/","title":{"rendered":"Cement-free Concrete Block Construction Demonstrated"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aecon.com\" target=\"_blank\">Aecon<\/a> was joined by <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/carbicrete.com\" target=\"_blank\">CarbiCrete<\/a> and <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.innocon.on.ca\" target=\"_blank\">Innocon<\/a> (a subsidiary of Lafarge Canada) for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Aecon\u2019s Innovation and Training Centre in Holland Landing, Ont., to mark the completion of construction for the first structure using CarbiCrete\u2019s cement-free concrete masonry units (CMUs) and Lafarge Canada\u2019s advanced ECOpact low-carbon concrete. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\">The low-carbon building will be used by Aecon as a tool storage facility for trainees working at the facility.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aecon.com\/images\/default-source\/sustainability-report---2019\/low-carbon-building_hollands-landing.jpg?sfvrsn=d1d6e0cb_1\" alt=\"The law carbon building at Holland Landing, made of concrete blocks. \" width=\"700\"\/><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><br \/>The pilot project was billed as a valuable use case for innovative low-carbon construction solutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">\u201cWe are excited to collaborate with Lafarge and CarbiCrete in testing low-carbon concrete and cement-free concrete blocks, taking an important step toward advancing sustainability in the construction industry,\u201d says Prabh K. Banga, vice-president of sustainability at Aecon. \u201cBy combining our expertise, we are not only pushing the boundaries of innovation but also addressing the pressing challenges of carbon emissions in the built environment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">According to CarbiCrete\u2019s recently published environmental product declaration, their decarbonized CMUs boast a global warming potential (or carbon footprint) that is 20 times lower than the industry average.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">\u201cAt Lafarge Canada, we\u2019re proud to lead the way in sustainable construction by delivering innovative low-carbon building solutions to our customers,\u201d said Andy Unger, vice-president of concrete for Lafarge Canada East. \u201cOur collaboration with Aecon and CarbiCrete in Holland Landing exemplifies our commitment to our net zero journey.
