December\u2019s ribbon-cutting ceremony at Aecon\u2019s Innovation and Training Centre in Holland Landing, Ont., put a spotlight on sustainability in construction as the event marked the completion of the first structure to be constructed using CarbiCrete\u2019s cement-free concrete masonry units (CMUs) and Lafarge Canada\u2019s advanced ECOpact low-carbon concrete.<\/p>\n

The low-carbon building, which was officially unveiled by Jacob Homiller, the CEO of CarbiCrete, Cl\u00e9ment Boisselier, Aecon\u2019s senior advisor for sustainability and environment, and Nashat Andraws, technical performance and data transformation manager at Innocon, a subsidiary of Lafarge Canada, will be used by Aecon as a tool storage facility for trainees working at the facility.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe use of low-carbon concrete represents the single greatest opportunity to reduce embodied carbon in the built environment,\u201d stated Homiller. \u201cWe\u2019re pleased to be collaborating with the innovative teams at Aecon and Lafarge Canada to decarbonize the construction sector.\u201d<\/p>\n
