Cielo Condos<\/a> is no longer confined to the depths of its foundation. As the new year gets underway, the future 34-storey tower is emerging above grade in Toronto\u2019s Annex neighbourhood. Designed by KPMB Architects<\/a> for Collecdev-Markee Developments<\/a>, with ERA Architects<\/a> overseeing heritage preservation aspects, the project incorporates the heritage George C. Pidgeon House and walls of\u00a0the Bloor Street United Church into its podium, combining contemporary high-rise living with century-old architecture.\u00a0<\/p>\n UrbanToronto last provided an update in November, 2024<\/a>, when sub-grade construction was advancing. Now, the long-awaited vertical ascent of Cielo Condos is getting underway.<\/p>\n Looking north from Bloor Street in January, 2025, all below-grade formwork is now completed, along with waterproofing of the exterior foundation walls. Rising at the centre, the crane stands adjacent to a red concrete boom pump. Vertical rebar protrudes from the snow-covered site. To the right is the Gothic Revival stonework of the Bloor Street United Church, and across the site, stacked materials rest on the completed ground floor slab, while safety railings and temporary barriers define work zones.<\/p>\n Turning to a view facing southeast across the site, we see the formwork in place below grade towards the north end. The crane, encircled by rebar, stands just northeast of the concrete boom pump. The site is prepared for the upcoming installation of mechanical, electrical, and ventilation equipment below grade, a key step before the automatic parking system trade contractor begins assembling the structure and conveyor system. Above, the church’s interior walls remain wrapped in protective weatherproofing, supported by the heritage retention scaffold system.<\/p>\n In this east-facing drone image from earlier this week, the full scope of construction is on display, with the luffing-jib crane\u2019s boom extending high over the site. The final pour for the ground floor slab was completed this week, and across the site, materials are staged at grade, with stacks of rebar and formwork concentrated around the crane and concrete boom pump. A square pit enclosed by red fencing is visible toward the south, near Bloor Street, while additional materials lie covered in snow at the north end, adjacent to the heritage retention scaffold system for the George C. Pidgeon House on the left. With walls and column formwork for the ground floor now progressing, the first walls, cast last week, are visible at the northwest corner (bottom right).<\/p>\n With the first pour of the second-floor slab scheduled for mid-February, 2025, Cielo Condos is heading\u00a0for a final height of 130.35m, housing 349 residential units.<\/p>\n UrbanToronto will continue to follow progress on this development, but in the meantime, you can learn more about it from our Database file, linked below.
