Westbend Residences<\/a> is, as the name suggests, now making its way above grade in Toronto\u2019s West Bend neighbourhood, just steps from High Park as well as Keele and Dundas West subway stations. Located at 1660 Bloor Street West, forming of the 13-storey mid-rise designed by BDP Quadrangle<\/a> for Mattamy Homes<\/a>\u00a0has now shifted to the smaller tower floor-plates above the completed podium levels. When UrbanToronto last provided an update in July, 2024<\/a>, work was focused on shoring and the four-level underground garage.<\/p>\n By September, 2024, construction had reached grade. In this view of the site\u2019s west end, construction crews were working atop a dense grid of rebar, placed to strengthen each and every section of concrete. The adjacent mid-rise building to the left defines the site’s western boundary (its variously blank and graffitied walls to be covered by Westbend), while TTC rail tracks in behind run parallel to Westbend’s north elevation.\u00a0<\/p>\n Looking northeast in December, 2024, Westbend Residences stood with three or four storeys formed along Bloor. At the western end, we see concrete forms in places for the fifth floor slab, with formwork on the east end in preparation for the fourth floor slab.<\/p>\n With the building being built on a sloping site, the north side of the property is several metres lower. The image below, captured\u00a0at the start of this year looking southeast across the adjacent parking lot, captures the lower levels plus floors two to four fully formed, while formwork is in place for the fifth storey, the first of the smaller tower floor-plates.<\/p>\n This month, precast cladding installation has been underway on the podium levels. In this west-facing view across Indian Road, the site\u2019s natural grade change is evident, sloping downwards to the north. Straight ahead through the construction gate, the future vehicular entrance to the garage can be seen, with the building held aloft above it. Atop the podium, the fifth-floor terrace parapet wall is taking shape, with formwork peeking out behind it for continue construction of the smaller tower floors.<\/p>\n The south elevation along Bloor has made substantial progress recently, with precast panels now installed across the first four levels, with panels to cover the parapet wall atop the podium to come soon, and glazing installation to follow. The double-height entrance stands out at the southeast corner. Up top, formwork for the seventh floor slab is in place as the building continues to climb.<\/p>\n Rising to a final height of 44.08m, Westbend Residences will bring 174 residential suites to the area.<\/p>\n UrbanToronto will continue to follow progress on this development, but in the meantime, you can learn more about it from our Database file, linked below.
