MONTREAL \u2014 The Quebec government says it would be open to reviving a controversial liquefied natural gas project in the province\u2019s Saguenay region to ship energy from Alberta overseas.<\/p>\n

Quebec refused to authorize GNL Qu\u00e9bec Inc.\u2019s proposed liquefaction facility and export terminal in 2021 and Ottawa followed suit in 2022, citing environmental concerns.<\/p>\n

However, U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s threats to impose tariffs on Canadian energy have increased the urgency for Canadian oil and gas producers to seek export markets beyond the United States.<\/p>\n

Quebec Environment Minister Benoit Charette said he is \u201cnot closed\u201d to energy projects that meet environmental protection standards.<\/p>\n

Quebec Conservative Party Leader \u00c9ric Duhaime recently wrote to Quebec Premier Fran\u00e7ois Legault, calling on the province to relaunch the GNL Qu\u00e9bec project.<\/p>\n

Duhaime, whose party hold no seats in the legislature, also called for the construction of new oil pipelines in the province.<\/p>\n
