One Click LCA, a sustainability platform for construction and manufacturing, shared those and other industry notes in its annual global Carbon Experts Report for 2025. The study explores the positive impact of LCAs on reducing embodied carbon in construction, the increasing influence of building material choices, and the barriers to further progress.

LCAs are used to calculate the environmental impact of processes and products during their life cycle. Survey responses were gathered from professionals in the manufacturing and AEC sectors.

The report identifies a significant embodied carbon reduction possibility with construction life-cycle assessments. More than 60 per cent of architect, engineering and construction (AEC) respondents estimate reductions of at least 10 per cent, showing the significant decarbonization impact of widespread LCA adoption in the industry.

Encouragingly, 31 per cent of respondents have already successfully reduced embodied carbon by up to 20 per cent through LCA use, while 23 per cent have achieved reductions of up to 30 per cent. One Click LCA says these findings are supported by its own research, which it says indicates carbon emissions can be reduced by more than one-third if the lowest-carbon-emitting products are selected for all materials in a building.

The report points to critical barriers hindering progress toward a low-carbon built-environment, including a lack of broad and consistent regulations. Implementing consistent carbon reduction strategies across projects and regions remains challenging as there can be significant variations in regulations, and a lack of clear and consistent policies, says the company.

“The construction value chain is critical in our collective effort to address climate change. We hope these findings serve as a call to action for the industry and regulators,” stated One Click LCA’s founder and CEO, Panu Pasanen. “We are now at a tipping point where technology, market demand and regulations are coming together to speed up sustainable practices across the construction value chain. The path to decarbonization requires sustained commitment from all stakeholders.”

In addition to widespread LCA adoption, Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) that show a product’s environmental impact and performance are becoming increasingly critical in material selection and procurement decisions throughout the global construction industry.

Both manufacturers and AEC professionals surveyed agree that EPDs influence material purchasing decisions, with 89 per cent and 83 per cent of respondents confirming this, respectively. Nearly half of manufacturers identify improved market position as the primary benefit of EPDs, while almost 40 per cent view EPDs as essential for staying competitive. The vast majority of respondents see increased carbon transparency between supply and demand sides as vital for improved sustainability in the industry.

Click here to read the full report.

www.oneclicklca.com

Print this page

[ad_2]

This article was originally posted at Source link

[ad_1] (Image courtesy of One Click LCA) A new study is highlighting the need for carbon transparency in the construction … Read more

[1085

post-29121","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-onsite-magazine","generate-columns","tablet-grid-50","mobile-grid-100","grid-parent","grid-33
["GET
