Rising a block south of the Yonge and Gerrard intersection in Downtown Toronto, 8 Elm<\/a> has ascended above its podium, with construction underway on the 69-storey tower. Designed by Arcadis<\/a> for Reserve Properties<\/a> and Capital Developments<\/a>, the condominium includes heritage elements at grade, with the brick walls of 8 Elm Street preserved in place and restored panels from 348 and 352 Yonge Street set to be reinstalled. Since UrbanToronto\u2019s last update<\/a> in August, 2023 when crews were preparing for the crane installation, construction has progressed steadily upwards.<\/p>\n By January, 2025, 8 Elm rose to six storeys as construction progresses from the three-storey podium to the stepped-back tower levels above. The brick masonry heritage facade of 8 Elm Street, preserved in place, now stands without a facade retention scaffold that held it up until new concrete structure what built behind it. To the right, the panels of 348 Yonge Street will be reinstated to form the south facade, with heritage work overseen by GBCA Architects<\/a>. A cement mixer truck is stationed near the opening where the panels will be reinstalled.<\/p>\n Looking southwest across Yonge Street, black formwork encloses the top floor of the concrete wall along the north elevation.\u00a0<\/p>\n This month, two cantilevered platforms extend above the second floor on the east elevation, staging materials including formwork and a concrete bucket. The crane rises centrally positioned between the platforms.<\/p>\n Looking northwest across Yonge Street, 8 Elm recently reached eight storeys. Yet another cantilevered staging platform extends over Elm Street, fenced off by yellow safety netting. Below, concrete walls and columns establish the ground-level structure, while on the left side at the uppermost level, a white concrete boom pump is positioned, ready for the next slab pour as every floor is formed.<\/p>\n The tower\u2019s contemporary aesthetic will feature satin bronze bullnose metal profiles, vertical metal accents, spandrel panels, and glazing.
