{"id":29657,"date":"2025-03-24T03:59:46","date_gmt":"2025-03-24T10:59:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/councils-will-lose-cash-if-they-fail-to-fix-potholes\/"},"modified":"2025-03-24T03:59:46","modified_gmt":"2025-03-24T10:59:46","slug":"councils-will-lose-cash-if-they-fail-to-fix-potholes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essential.construction\/news\/councils-will-lose-cash-if-they-fail-to-fix-potholes\/","title":{"rendered":"Councils will lose cash if they fail to fix potholes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>From mid April councils will start to receive their share of the government\u2019s \u00a31.6bn highway maintenance funding, including an extra \u00a3500m \u2013 enough to fill 7 million potholes a year.<\/p>\n<p>But to get the full amount, all councils in England must from today publish annual progress reports on their pothole filling.<\/p>\n<p>Local authorities who fail to meet these strict conditions will see 25% of the uplift (\u00a3125m in total) withheld.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Keir Starmer has made fixing roads a personal issue.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cBritish people are bored of seeing their politicians aimlessly pointing at potholes with no real plan to fix them.
